extrinsic pathway

Fab fragment

A product of papain hydrolysis of an immunoglobulin G consisting of the variable region and some of the constant region of a heavy chain and an entire light chain, and containing a single antigen-binding site. (see also Fc fragment) Learn more about restriction enzymes.

Fc fragment

A product of papain hydrolysis of an immunoglobulin G consisting of parts of the constant regions of two heavy chains held together by a disulphide bridge, but excluding antigen-binding regions. (see also FAB fragment)

Fenton reaction

The generation of a reactive, and potentially damaging, hydroxyl radical: H2O2+Fe2+OH•+Fe3+OH-.

Folin-Ciocalteu reagent

A reagent that uses phosphomolybdotungstate for the colorimetric detection of proteins. (see also Lowry protein assay)
