One of the proteins that encapsulate the nucleic acid core of a virus. (see also capsid)
(see coated region)
The region of the plasma membrane of a cell capable of endocytosis that contains receptors and is lined on the cytoplasmic side with the protein clathrin. When the receptors are occupied, these regions invaginate to form coated pits and then pinch off into coated vesicles in the cytoplasm. (see also receptosome (endosome)) Related tool: molecular biology tools
(see coated region)
A complex of four proteins that coats Golgi-derived non-clathrin-coated vesicles, and that presumably supports their function in intracellular transport and budding. Waters, M.G., Serafini, T. and Rothman, J.E. (1991) Nature (London) 349, 248-251
(see vesosome)
A premixed reagent, i.e. a solution of phosphors for scintillation counting.
In an attempt to develop specific therapies, free of side-effects, an antisense oligonucleotide or analogue that is designed to form a double-stranded complex with an mRNA produced by a virus or other pathogen, or during inflammation or oncogenesis. In the absence of the blocker, the targeted mRNA would otherwise direct synthesis of a protein that supports the infection, inflammation or oncogenesis. (see also antisense) Learn more about sgRNA.
(see antisense)
A term borrowed from linguistics, signifying a correspondence; e.g. a receptor and its cognate ligand, a tRNA and its cognate amino acid.
