| Gene Type | protein-coding |
| Organism | Gallus gallus(chicken) |
| Summary | This gene encodes a protein similar to one of two mammalian cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor proteins which regulate the activity of cyclin-dependent protein kinases CDK4 and CDK6 which further cell cycle progression through G1. Expression of this protein in human keratinocytes is induced by TGF-beta, a cytokine that inhibits cell growth through arrest in the G1 phase of the cell cycle. There is evidence that the encoded protein is functionally equivalent to mammalian p16INK4a, a protein from a similar but distinct mammalian gene. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2008]. |
