chemical change

Chemical change is defined as a rearrangement of the atomic array of matter, which results in a change of physical properties. Chemical changes occur when a substance combines with another to form a new substance, called chemical synthesis or chemical decomposition into two or more different substances.

A chemical change results from a chemical reaction, while a physical change is when matter changes forms but not chemical identity.

There are two types of changes in chemistry. A physical change is when the form of the substance changes, such as the regular phase changes in water due to temperature. As the temperature increases from the freezing point of water, it changes from the solid form of water, ice; to the liquid form, water; to the gaseous state, steam.
