radiation-induced hybrid mapping

A method for location of a human genetic marker within a restricted region of a single chromosome. A hybrid cell LINE that contains a specific single human chromosome in each recipient rodent cell is heavily irradiated, and surviving cells are selected that carry fragments of the human chromosome integrated into the rodent chromosome. Each rodent chromosome is subsequently characterized by its own morphology and genetic markers and by the human fragment it carries, so that the cells may be analysed, e.g. by fluorescence in situ hybridization, for a new genetic marker.
