Scientists studied the effect of very low calorie diet (VLCD) in combatting diabetes. The data showed that in a rat model, VLCD-induced pleiotropic mechanisms reverse hyperglycemia, reduced hepatic insulin resistance, glycogenolysis, and acetyl-CoA content among other indicators.
