At the edge of genomics: sequencing single viral particles, one at a time

In this talk we will present how we have optimized single-cell technologies to sort single viral particles by advanced flow cytometry and whole genome amplify the genetic content from individual sorted viral particles. This methodology -so far- can be applied to any virtual prokaryotic and eukaryotic DNA virus. We have used this novel single virus genomic approach to unveil the genomics of viruses inhabiting the human body and aquatic environments. This talk will discuss technical issues and present some important results such as the discovery of possibly the most abundant virus in Earth by single-virus genomics.

Key Notes:

To explain what is single virus genomics technology.

To show the potential of single virus genomics in different disciplines.

To give some examples in viral ecology and molecular virology.
