Project’s Critical Challenge

As an International Institute for Nanotechnology (IIN) Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Chad A. Mirkin’s lab at Northwestern University, Sergej Kudruk is currently focusing on modularity of nanoscale architecture to activate and enhance the patient's immune system in the fight against diseases. Where nanomedicines are defined not just by the identity of the active components but also by their structural arrangement and chemical connectivity.  By identifying the structural determinants that contribute to improved immune responses against cancer cells, Kudruk aims to optimize nanoimmunotherapeutics for precise and efficient tumor targeting.

A significant challenge in his current project is the need for long synthetic peptide epitopes to achieve specific nanostructure modifications. Screening a wide spectrum of long peptide epitopes required peptide scalability within a reasonable timeframe, making outsourcing a necessity.
